Hits divided by at-bats. Shows how often a player gets a hit.
HR (Home Runs)
Total number of home runs hit by the player.
RBI (Runs Batted In)
Number of runs a player has driven in with their hits.
OBP (On-Base Percentage)
How often a player reaches base via hit, walk, or hit-by-pitch.
SLG (Slugging Percentage)
Total bases divided by at-bats. Measures power hitting ability.

Understanding baseball batting metrics and what makes a great hitter.

AVG (Batting Average)
Hits divided by at-bats. .300+ is excellent, .270+ is good.
OBP (On-Base Percentage)
How often a batter reaches base. .400+ is excellent, .350+ is good.
SLG (Slugging Percentage)
Total bases divided by at-bats. Measures power. .500+ is excellent.
wOBA (Weighted On-Base Average)
Comprehensive offensive metric that weights different hitting outcomes. .400+ is excellent.
wRC+ (Weighted Runs Created Plus)
Park and league adjusted offensive value. 100 is average, 130+ is excellent.
BABIP (Batting Average on Balls in Play)
Batting average on balls hit into play (excludes HRs and strikeouts). Around .300 is typical.

Traditional Stats

AVG (Batting Average): Hits divided by at-bats.

HR (Home Runs): Balls hit over the outfield fence.

RBI (Runs Batted In): Runs scored due to batter's action.

SB (Stolen Bases): Successful base-stealing attempts.

Rate Stats

OBP (On-Base Percentage): How often a batter reaches base safely.

SLG (Slugging Percentage): Total bases per at-bat (power measure).

K% (Strikeout Rate): Percentage of plate appearances ending in strikeouts.

BB% (Walk Rate): Percentage of plate appearances ending in walks.

Advanced Metrics

wOBA: Weighted On-Base Average - combines all offensive events by value.

wRC+: Weighted Runs Created Plus - overall offensive value (100 = average).
